{nails file} PBFC Hosts Legislators at "Welcome To Our World" Lobbying Event April's "Welcome to Our World" (W.O.W.) lobbying event in Sacramento, Calif., is the beauty industry's showcase for state legislators and regulators. This year there were over 250 individual services performed on policymakers, regulators, and staffers by more than 40 beauty professionals who volunteered their time and expertise to showcase the world of beauty. The event took place on the south steps of the California State Capitol Building. The Professional Beauty Federation of California (PBFC) and its industry sponsors had the opportunity to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing our industry in California, particularly policy and regulatory issues that need to be addressed by our elected and appointed leaders. As most of the laws governing beauty are set at the state level, this kind of communication is considered vital. Among WOW's sponsors this year were CND, OPI, Marinello Schools of Beauty, and Cengage/ Milady Publishing. To learn more about PBFC's accomplishments and goals, visit the PBFC website at www.beautyfederation.org. 1 2 3 1. Just Look at That! Nobody knows better than Las Vegas and San Franciscobased nail tech Sindy Mark the value of a photo when it comes to inspiring clients to try something new. A licensed cosmetologist since 1997, Mark is also the educational director for Kupa Inc., where she developed the Kupa Certified  Advanced Training courses, programs, and classes. To make it easy for clients to opt for those unusual shapes and designs that are so much fun to create, Mark and her colleagues at Wild Orchid Nail Salons (www.wildorchid.biz) provide thousands of photos of nail art of diferent types, shapes, techniques, and lengths. "Our website has a ton of examples of our work. So do our Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter pages. They're our biggest marketing tools," she says. "Nowadays, clients have done their homework and come into our salon with examples of their own that they find on the Internet and social media." The rest is simply word-of-mouth. "Always leave them with a few >>> business cards," says Mark. 50 | NAILS MAGAZINE | AUGUST 2013
