STYLE} nail art studio Somber Rose 1. Polish the nail red. 2. Use a make-up sponge to apply black acrylic paint as a fade, making the bottom darker. 3. Use a fine brush to add abstract black lines. Apply top coat. 4. Use black and white acrylic to sculpt a 3-D flower. Use the double-loading technique of dipping the brush in the white, then in the black, to create petals that include both colors. Start from the outer part of the flower and work toward the center, using smaller beads as you approach the center. Add 3-D black-and-white leaves. 5. On the outer petals add a few clear acrylic dots to look like rain droplets. Add a line of rhinestones on top of the black. Use a fine brush and coat only the clear acrylic "rain" dots with clear polish. Bryan Vu, Venus Nails & Day Spa, Orlando Flowing Flower 1. Polish the nail yellow. 2. Use a black striper to create outlines of three petals. Use the same striper to fill in the petals and add curved lines in between. 3. Fill in the petals with white paint. Use a pink striper to accent. 4. Use a dotting tool and black paint to accent the lines between the petals. 5. Apply a rhinestone to the flower center. Vanessa Treviño, Hair Bangers Salon, Port Richey, Fla. Pumpkin in a Haystack 1. Polish the nail black. 2. Use a yellow striper to make curved vertical lines resembling hay. Use a brown striper to highlight. 3. Use a black striper to add a horizontal line across the center of the hay. 4. Add two orange circles at the base for pumpkins. Add brown stems. Add a white half-circle at the corner for the moon. Joanne Truitt, Pompano Beach, Fla. 110 | NAILS MAGAZINE | NOVEMBER 2013 PHOTOGRAPHY BY KIMBERLY PHAM
