The Pedi-Cure for Breast Cancer After losing her son's godmother to breast cancer in June, Kamisha sha Winfield, owner of The Polished Stone Mobile Spa in Augusta, Ga., a., decided to make a diference. She came up with Pedi-for-a-Cure. In addition to being a pedicure that raises awareness of the disease, e, 10% of the $25 year-round service is donated to charity. "I kept thinking about how I could contribute," says Winfield. "I want to show people how something as simple as a pedicure can n help find a cure." What's involved? Winfield's Pedi-for-a-Cure, also referred to as "pink pedi," consists of an invigorating foot soak, cuticle care, exfoliation, a leg and foot massage, polish application, and breast cancer-themed nail art. All products Winfield uses for the service are pink, although clients can opt for a diferent color polish. A complimentary face mask and relaxing music are also ofered in addition to information regarding the disease and how people can monitor their own health. Do it yourself. This type of service is something any nail tech can easily add to their menu, says Winfield. Try ofering it during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, or leave it on the menu year-round like The Polished Stone Mobile Spa. "Perform the service you love and just add pink," says Winfield, who suggests ofering manicures called "Man-I-Cares for a Cure" or acrylic enhancements titled "Over-Lay Cancer." "Anyone can do something; anyone can make a diference!" Izen Shakes It Up The Shaker by Izen is a mechanical gel-polish bottle shaker new to the market. On display at OPI's Cosmoprof booth this year, The Shaker garnered plenty of attention and has been officially endorsed by OPI for both lacquer and GelColor. The device aims to prepare a bubble-free gel-polish bottle, according to the manufacturer, by rotating it at over 500 RPM in up-and-down and side-to-side movements. Nail techs can place one bottle at a time in the zinc die-casted machine, push a button, and watch the shaking in action for an automatic 60-second cycle. The Shaker boasts both an ergonomic design and a surprisingly quiet operation. Additionally, its stable build prevents it from shaking off surfaces. Priced at $59.95, it's compatible with any polish bottle shape or type — gel or traditional — and works with both 110 and 220 voltage for international use.
