TECHNIQUE}behind the scenes 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Gold Velvet When Hand & Nail Harmony dean of education MaeLing Parrish told us about a new technique she learned in nail tech Sam Biddle's class, we thought it sounded like a perfect look for our holiday cover. The velvet-effect nails probably aren't the most versatile; you don't want any lotion or oils to get on them. But they make for a beautiful holiday nail style. And really, you can create so many looks with the velveteen ⇓ ocking — solid coverage in a multitude of colors or any number of different designs. Parrish We wanted to stick with a monochromatic gold look for the holidays so Parrish used Gelish Allure with Be Creative ⇓ ocking in Gold. 68 | NAILS MAGAZINE | DECEMBER 2012 PHOTOGRAPHY BY VU ONG/KIMBERLY PHAM Here's how you can do these nails: 1. Sculpt nails using Hand & Nail Harmony Fusion clear acrylic. Perfect the shape and surface contour of the nails using a 150-grit ⇒ le. 2. Apply Gelish Foundation to the entire surface and free edge. Cure for ⇒ ve seconds in an LED lamp. 3. Apply two coats of Gelish Allure (a gold). Cure each layer for 30 seconds in an LED lamp. 4. Apply Gelish Top-It Off. Cure for 30 seconds in an LED lamp and cleanse to remove tacky layer. 5. Apply Dry Armor (no-tack gel sealer) in desired design. Do not cure! This acts like the "glue" for the velveteen ⇓ ocking. (Parrish applied the Dry Armor and velveteen ⇓ ocking in a random pattern on each nail for our cover.) 6. Using the scoop end of the Eco pusher, generously sprinkle Be Creative Gold velveteen ⇓ ocking onto the un-cured Dry Armor. (You can order Be Creative velveteen ⇓ ocking at www.sambiddle.co.uk.) 7. After gently pressing the velveteen into Dry Armor, tap off any excess ⇓ ocking. Cure for 30 seconds in an LED lamp.
