2 W e are still reveling in the success of our first Foot Forward Summit! Although our event concluded over a week ago, I am still receiving messages, emails, and being tagged in posts that fondly recall our time at our event. You can read some of these messages on page 16, but if you really want to experience the warm and fuzzies that come with networking and learning, you'll have to join us again next year. One thing that really struck me about our Summit was the fact that so many nail techs traveled great distances on their own. I met women who drove hours from Florida, and others who flew in from Maine, Ohio, and Iowa. Some attendees came as far as Barbados. They work on their own, and in many cases are the sole nail technician in a hair salon. Some came with full books of clients who had special foot care needs. Others saved up for this event because their business needs an edge, and they felt foot care could be the answer. I enjoyed hearing the stories of attendees who took a risk on a first-time event. I was especially moved to see that so many who came on their own left with new friends and made important professional connections. The final panel of the Summit offered some particularly good advice on moving forward with all the knowledge received at the show. Janet McCormick advised attendees to set achievable goals for themselves. With so many nail professionals saying they will return to Foot Forward next year, I am curious to know what goals have been set or what changes have been implemented in your business since the Summit. An attendee told me she would not be offering pedicure services until September, so that she could rethink her menu and make adjustments to pricing. Now that's forward thinking. This recap takes us back to Atlanta, but at NAILS, our thoughts are already focused on next year's Summit. I urge you to share your goals from this year by emailing me ( and to share your memories from the Summit on social media (#footforwardsummit). I look forward to seeing you next year, August 11-13 at the Hilton Atlanta Northeast, so we can make new memories and share each other's progress. To moving forward, FOOT FORWARD SUMMIT 2018 | EDITOR'S NOTE W
