{nails file} An Open Letter to the Good Folks at NSI I am the director of sales and distributor r development for NSI. I live in Oklahoma City. Well, that's my technical address but really we are in Moore, Okla. My children go to Moore Public Schools and my husband is a teacher and coach in the district as well. The recent tornado hit blocks from where my husband and son were. So many of our friends and our kids' friends lost everything. I would like to publicly thank NSI for the amazing support they have provided — not only emotional but t l ti lb t financial support. The director of international sales called right after the tornado and I was talking to her about not being able to find work boots. The company immediately overnighted work boots and safety items to allow us to get into the community and help. The founder of the company checked in with me every day to see how we were doing. A nail tech (and best friend) from Bettendorf, Iowa, took donations and drove down to help us in the relief efforts. In addition, NSI is allowing me to pick a couple of foundations and will be emailing out a request for donations to all of our distributors. I really appreciate working for such a great company. The nail community was a huge support to my community and I don't want it to go unnoticed. Sincerely, Malinda Haggerty Graham Beauty Donates School Supplies About three years ago, school instructor Madelyn Johnson of Royal Beauty Careers in South Houston, Texas, was at a tradeshow and happened to mention to a Graham Beauty account manager that her students sometimes don't have the disposable income to purchase school supplies. "Starting nail school can be quite costly in the beginning, with the cost of the course, books, and uniforms," Johnson told the account manager. That account manager, Debbie Schlise, then approached her boss at Graham Beauty, Dave Albers, who authorized ongoing donations of the company's products to the school. "We want to say thank you to Graham Beauty for their continued support," says Johnson. The donated products have included orangewood sticks, gloves, lint-free wraps, cotton pads, and HandsDown Soak-Of Gel Nail Wraps. Johnson takes Graham Beauty's donations, along with any other donations she is able to gather for that semester, and packages them into "welcome kits" for the students. "Their faces just light right up when they get their packets with all the goodies," Johnson says. 54 | NAILS MAGAZINE | AUGUST 2013 Nail Artist Chronicles Life's Ups and Downs A nail technician and artist for 33 years, Tina Panariello has written about her struggles to succeed in this industry in an autobiography titled Polished: Filing Away at Life's Truths.
