68 | NAILS MAGAZINE | 2016-2017 THE BIG BOOK >>> HOW TO DO EVERYTHING BETTER GUIDE: ... EVEN BETTER Pigments and Acrylics 1. Apply a CND tip to a prepped natural nail. Apply a thin base layer of Retention+ Sculpting Powder Clear and finish with the 180-grit side of the Hot Shot File. Dip a clear bead of Retention Liquid and Powder into CND Additives Cerulean Blue and blend together on a piece of palette paper. Apply the bead diagonally across the top third of the nail, pressing toward the middle of the nail to feather out the color slightly. 2. Repeat with Additives Lavender Whispers across the center. 3. Repeat with Additives Haute Pink at the tip of the nail. Apply Perfect Color Powder Pure White to the sidewalls of the nail to encase the edges of the design. Refine with a file if needed. 4. Apply a thin layer of Brisa Gloss. Cure for one minute in the CND LED Lamp. Wipe with 99% Isopropyl alcohol to remove top film. Gel-Polish and Acrylic Paint 1. Apply a white gel-polish as the base color and cure for 30 seconds under an LED lamp. Repeat for full coverage. Apply top coat and cure. Remove the tacky film with alcohol and gently file the surface using a 180-grit file. 2. Place pink, green, blue, and purple acrylic paint on a mixing palette. Add a drop or two of water to each color to dilute it. 3. Use a pointed art brush to create petals by dropping the diluted pink acrylic paint in a petal shape. Try not to place perfect dots in order to avoid a perfectly round shape. 4. Wipe your brush clean and make sure it's slightly dry and place it over the drop of pink acrylic paint so that it absorbs the extra water and leaves the watercolor effect. 5. Repeat steps three and four to create the rest of the flower with all of the colors on your palette. 6. Add dimension to the design by adding falling petals repeating steps three and four. 7. Use a liner brush and gold glitter gel-polish and place it on the center of the nail and anywhere else there is open space. Cure. 8. Embellish as desired. Apply a layer of top coat for extra shine. Cure. Colored Acrylics 1. Using EzFlow Truly White powder, sculpt the base shape. Cover the entire nail, keeping the product very thin. This creates the "canvas" you will be working on. 2. With Aspiring Hues from the Ez Flow Watercolors collection, start to create a flower using small beads of acrylic and pressing them out into a petal shape. 3. Add more petals over the first layer to create dimension and finish the flower. Try to keep everything as thin as possible. 4. Shade and add detail to the flower with Mind's Eye powder. 5. Use Aquarelle, Painter's Palette, and Brushstrokes in small wet beads to fill in empty space around your design. Fade each color into the other by slightly overlapping them. 6. Cap the entire nail in EzFlow clear powder, building in the structure of the nail. 7. File and shape the nail. File carefully so you don't file into your design. Buff to a high shine. 8. Apply EzFlow Essential Oil Plus to the cuticles and massage into the skin. WORK
