Unlisted means your video or playlist won't show up in search results, but anyone with a link can still view it. How to Get More Men Into Your Salon If you want to bring more men into your salon, begin by getting serious about your Father's Day promotions and grow from there. Here are six ways to drum up some excitement on the part of male clients as well as the women who love them. 1. Offer gift cards for your male- friendly services. Your female clients will be looking for gifts for the men in their lives come June — be sure to mention the convenience of picking up a ready-made card at the end of their services. Also, put out a stack at the checkout desk with promotional signage. 2. Plant the seed in your clients' heads that partner-pedicures are the perfect way to celebrate special occa- sions, from Father's Day to Mother's Day to birthdays. "We are having an open house at our salon right before Mother's Day. My plan is to cater toward the men coming in with their wives for a double pedicure. A his- and-hers retreat is perfect for Moth- er's and Father's Days," says nail tech Anne VanSpronsen of McIntyre's Salon in Portage, Mich. YouTube Analytics (www.youtube. com/analytics) through your account. The title of your video is one of the most important tools for creating traffic, as there are certain topics and words that people search fairly frequently. One way to check on the status of certain commonly searched words is to visit www.youtube.com/ keyword_tool. If you have multiple videos on the same subject, it's well worth your time to create a YouTube playlist. Tags are the underlined words that show up underneath a video description. They are manually entered when you upload your video. Similar to titles, tags are anything people search relating to your content and ultimately how they end up finding you. YouTube's keyword tool can help with this as well. Be your own public relations department and push your content out through social media. Promote yourself when new videos come out, including a link and thumbnail photo. Best Practices: > Choose a strong thumbnail to make your playlist stand out. > If your playlist needs content, make a short intro video. > Add sections on your channel's homepage for specific topics so you can filter your videos and playlists into the relevant spot. > Private means no one can see the video or playlist but you. Public means everyone can see and embed 3. If your salon is full-service, offer packages that incorporate a variety of services beyond nails. "For Father's Day, we are working on a special shave package that encour- ages fathers and sons to come into the salon together," says Kristen Hammond of 18|8 Fine Men's Salons in Irvine, Calif. "We offer an individual shave package as well." 4. Launch a new service in anticipation of Father's Day. And distribute a press release to the media as part of your marketing plan. "For Father's Day, we will introduce the new Hammer & Nails Aromatherapy Pedicure. This treatment is designed to heal overworked feet with the use of essential oils and herbs. For anyone who wants to give the gift of pampering and relaxation, the new pedicure will the perfect Father's Day gift," says Natasha Ray, manager of Hammer & Nails in Los Angeles. 5. Cater to the pack mentality. "We do well with groups. The gal pals invite the guy pals and have a Six Pack Party!" says Wilmington, Del.-based Allison Moore of Pamper Perfect Mobile Spa. 6. Offer gift boxes of men's retail products. Even if a man refuses to enter a salon's doors, you can still satisfy his grooming needs by offering a package of shave cream, cologne, nail clippers, and body lotion. Sell it to his significant other as the ideal Father's Day gift. CONNECT
